The origins of Capt. Tolley

Many years ago, when I was crossing the Atlantic I had plenty of time to contemplate the problem of water dripping on to my chart table, and worse still, on to my bunk. When I inspected the deck, the seams and fittings seemed to be perfectly in order. There was nothing visibly wrong to the naked eye.

It was then that I realised that what I needed was a penetrating sealant. One that would follow the path of the water itself, and one that would be water-based to deal with the unseen dampness.

At the time, I was working at a research establishment and I posed this problem to the chemists.

The result was Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure - so named by a bunch of friends at my yacht club!

The product was launched at the Southampton Boat Show in 1986. It has since been sold all over the world. Judging by the many letters. poems and songs we have received over the years, we do seem to have made a lot of people very happy and drier.
